It's crazy to think in just one more month we'll be up in the triple digit temperatures here in Phoenix! To help keep cool this summer I've compiled a list of my favorite summer supplements & sweets to make it through the summer... in a two-piece :)
Greek Yogurt Popsicles
A summer staple - popsicles! But unlike most sugary treats, these Greek yogurt 'sicles are packed with real fruit, natural sweetner, probioitcs and protein. And that's a mouth-full :)
To recreate these Greek popsicles, you can approach them in quite a few ways.
Tips & Tricks:
Sweet Tooth Smoothies
Whether it's a post workout protein blast, serving as a meal replacement, or just giving into that nightly sweet tooth - smoothies are a go-to choice! Because my grocery lists tend to be pretty basic, I usually stick to a few main ingredients that I can switch up depending on my cravings - generally using a non-fat, plain Greek yogurt base and adding up from there!
Two of my favorites:
[simply throw it in the blender & enjoy]
Greek Yogurt Honey Protein Stacks
If you live for brunch, you're familiar with the struggle. Pancakes will literally take the cake every time... These protein stacks are the perfect supplement to your brunch routine, not to mention, if you make them in bulk, you can freeze them - making them super accessible!
Detox & Hydrate > Ginger & Lemon Infused H2O
Ginger should be your new best friend - for so many reasons! Not only does it regulate the movement of food through your digestive track (increasing the rate of your metabolism to help burn off some of that fat stored in the body), it is also an extremely powerful anti-inflammatory that helps to suppress cortisol (the stress hormone that builds and stores in your tissue, leading to belly fat and weight gain!)
There are so many ways to incorporate ginger into your diet, but the easiest way is to shred 1-2 tablespoons into your drinking water. You can also add lemon to enhance the taste and further promote fat burn and enjoy this drink all day long. Cheers!
Ultimate Kickstart > Apple Cider Vinegar
While we're talking about ways to kick cravings we might as well stop and shine some light on Apple Cider Vinegar. To provide a little background knowledge, vinegar is known for lowering blood sugar and insulin levels, which help to fight our fatty cravings. When you combine that with the power of apples, which help you feel fuller - you've got an award winning combination to suppress your appetite.
In addition, like ginger, Apple Cider Vinegar also helps break down fat cells, aiding in digestion (promoting metabolism), so food doesn't sit in your intensities for too long.
However, unlike ginger, Apple Cider Vinegar is very harsh and it's potency can certainly turn you off. If you're brave enough, you can add a teaspoon to 8oz of water and drink the solution before you eat. If you have trouble choking this down, you can use it as a base ingredient in mixing up salad dressings that are actually quite delicious!
Chia Craze > Parfaits & Pudding
Parfaits - my every morning addiction! Perhaps it's the simplicity of a parfait that I love so much, or maybe it's how many versions I'm able to create. Either way - it's a household staple!
Recently I came across the ChopShop PB&J Parfait and my world was rocked. I went home to recreate it with a few lighter ingredients, and with great humbleness I must say, it's pretty dang amazing :)
Chia seeds are among the healthiest foods on the planet. Extremely high in protein and fiber, benefiting both your body and brain! They also happen to super easy to incorporate in your daily routine (seen above in the parfaits!)
One of the most raved about Chia recipes is the Chia pudding - great for breakfast, snacking... even dessert. To recreate this recipe, simply add 1c of Coconut Milk for every 1/4c of Chia seeds. You can dress it up with your favorite fruits and even add some natural sugar with a bit of honey.
